More than 40 years ago, in August 1963, Martin Luther King electrified America with his momentous ‘I Have A Dream’ speech, dramatically delivered from the steps of the Lincoln Memorial. Here Stevie Edwards looks at what makes it so memorable. The “I have a dream” speech by Martin Luther King is recognised as one of the best speeches ever given. King also constantly showed sympathy to Negros who have experienced racial inequality. The repetition of this phrase gave his audience a sense of hope and optimism. Many times throughout the speech, King used and repeated the phrase “I Have a Dream”. King’s speech helped in influencing his audience by appealing to their emotions, fears, and desires.
